PCA-Tampa Bay Concludes Successful Summer of Character Development Program

08.26.2019

PCA–Tampa Bay concluded a successful summer of Character Development programming that reached over 3,000 youth participating in camps with Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation Department, Pasco County Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay.

Coaches and staff certified in PCA’s Double-Goal Coach® curriculum led youth in daily lessons, activities, and group discussions that focused on PCA’s key principles of Emotional Tanks, ELM Tree of Mastery, and Honoring the Game through ROOTS. Campers learned how to apply these principles at camp, home, school, and in the community.

In Pasco County and the Boys & Girls Clubs, it was the start of a new partnership and an introduction into PCA’s Character Development Program.

“Having PCA-Tampa Bay provide programming in two Clubs is a wonderful addition to our character and leadership focus,” said Chris Letsos, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay. “When our Club youth receive tools to excel in school and in life, it’s a win.”

In Hillsborough County, where this was year two of the summer program, a highlight of the 2019 summer program’s completion was campers attending a baseball game between the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox at Tropicana Field. Children were recognized on-field prior to the start of the game for exemplifying PCA’s key principles.

“We are excited we were able to partner with two new organizations and further develop our program in Hillsborough County,” said Mason Cathey Brady, PCA-Tampa Bay Executive Director. “Our mission is to positively impact all children in the Tampa community.”

The summer Character Development program was made possible through the generous support of BayCare, Tampa Bay Rays, SunTrust Foundation, Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation, Pasco County Parks & Recreation, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay.
