Student Athlete Profile

Madeline Strasen is a swimmer from Robinson High School. She sees the impact a positive team environment can have. “Swimming is a mental game, and if one gives up before he or she even begins, the chance of success becomes slim. In order to encourage my struggling teammate, I continued to work as hard as I could while also encouraging her each time she completed a 200. The encouragement became contagious, and by the end of the practice every one of us had turned in one of our best set performances of the season. More importantly, the team grew closer together through our hard work and encouragement, and every one of us got out of the pool feeling a sense of pride and confidence.”

Madeline’s coach sees the physical and mental results of her great work ethic. “In the sport of swimming, many athletes experience ups and downs in performances and have to remain confident and strong in their training schedules and trust in the process. A positive mental attitude is crucial to success in the swimming world. Maddie has made many important strides, both mentally and athletically, to become the athlete she is today. After experience a career best season, Maddie continued to challenge herself in and out of the water to improve her physical performance and overcame a mental roadblocks standing in the way of her success.”
