Best In The Business At The 2017 Silicon Valley Shootout

10.09.2017

Back for a second year, PCA-SF Bay Area’s Silicon Valley Shootout 3v3 Basketball Tournament returned to Golden State Warrior Headquarters. The Bay Area’s preeminent corporate 3v3 tournament occurred on Saturday, Oct. 7th inside the Golden State Warriors training facility. Thirty-two teams came together for a full day of “fierce and friendly” competition on the same practice courts used by KD, Steph, Klay, Draymond, and the rest of the 2017 NBA Champs.

Former Warrior player and NBC Sports analyst Kelenna Azubuike was in attendance as Tournament Emcee.

Azubuike kicked off the tournament with an opening statement, which can be seen below.

His remarks included praise for his high school basketball coach, who was not just big on teaching basketball but also strongly emphasized life lessons and character development. Azubuike credits those lessons for shaping the person he has become today.

Proceeds raised through the tournament help advance PCA’s mission of transforming the youth sports culture into a Development Zone® where all youth and high school athletes have a positive, character-building experience that results in "Better Athletes, Better People.”

The tournament featured 32 teams, representing industries as diverse as real estate development, construction, technology, human safety/first responders and pro sports management in eight pools of four teams each. The top two teams in each pool advanced.

By day’s end, the Cal Poly Mustangs emerged as the 2017 Silicon Valley Shootout champion, defeating D&C Development 27-23 in the title game. The champs roster consisted of a mixture of collegiate athletes: Will Taylor (Cal Poly basketball), Anthony Dunston (Davis & Elkins College basketball), James Thomas (CSU Monterey Bay basketball), and E.J Brown, a former safety on the UC Davis football team (2004-07). Pac-12 Networks and Upgrade Sports Alliance both advanced to the Final-4 before elimination.

This year’s shootout featured some exciting matchups between Bay Area Pro Sport teams (49ers, Athletics, Earthquakes, Giants, and Warriors), Construction Companies (Blach, CBRE, Devcon, NOVO, Truebeck, XL), Silicon Valley companies (Cisco, Facebook, Jones Day, LinkedIn, Nio, Oak Hill Capital), and Human Safety professionals/First Responders (Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, Oakland Police Dept, Santa Clara County Fire Department, and San Francisco Police Dept).

The talent was on display in every direction. This talent included but was not limited to Casey Jacobsen, Will Taylor, Andrew Zimmerman, and Stephen Lumpkins. Jacobsen was a two-time all-American at Stanford and 2002 first round pick by the Phoenix Suns (22nd Overall). He enjoyed a successful playing career overseas in Europe, where he was two-time German League MVP while playing for the Brose Baskets, of Bamberg. The tournament Champion Cal Poly were led by Taylor, who finished his college career for the Mustangs during the 2011-12 season. Former Stanford standout Andrew Zimmerman helped D&C Development advance to the Tournament Finals. Lumpkins, the only returning member from the 2016 shootout champion Olympic Club Team, was a two-sport star at American University who has played basketball & baseball at the professional level.

The entire PCA-SF Bay Area Team would like to express our gratitude for making this event a world-class experience for everyone involved! We look forward to seeing everyone back next year.
