Alex Eckelman

Assistant Director, Player Development

Alex Eckelman begins his 10th season with the Indians and his fourth in the role of Assistant Director of Player Development after spending much of the previous four years as Advance Scouting Coordinator. In his current role, Alex assists with the leadership of the club's Player Development staff and the design and creation of programs, policies and curriculums implemented throughout Cleveland's system. He also oversees the player plan origination for position players in collaboration with coaches, coordinators and other front office staff members. Eckelman originally joined the Indians organization in 2010 as an Advance Scouting Intern and transitioned into the role of Assistant Director, Pro Scouting in 2011, handling analysis and Major League advance reports on upcoming opponents while also assisting with oversight of the club's Pro Scouting operations.

Alex, 44, played professional baseball for nine years from 1997-2005 in the Houston and St. Louis organizations including parts of three seasons at the Triple-A level. Following his playing career, he coached in the Astros system in 2007. Alex graduated from The Ohio State University, where he played varsity baseball from 1994-97 and was elected to the Varsity "O" Hall of Fame in 2006 in a class that included Eddie George. He concluded his minor league career with a batting average of .274 (706-2578) in 804 games. Alex resides in Broadview Heights and has two children, Mason and Samantha.
